Western White

$350.00

While we call them “white”, they aren’t really. They are a cream color from the lanolin that remains in the wool after processing. Lanolin protects the sheep from the elements and gives the hide its character. Large factories use chemicals to remove the lanolin but we believe leaving it adds to the hides unique character.

Size: 39” x 25”

What we love about it: Soft fluffy locks that hold up to repeated use.

Wool: 2” soft crimpy wool. Creamy color with beautiful texture.

Origin: Born in Oregon and loving raised here at Living Sky Farm

THE PROCESS

These beautiful hides are tanned on our family farm in Indian Valley  Idaho. The process is gentle and certified organic in England.

Why is there hay in my rug!!? In the sheep world we call this VM or vegetable matter. The gentle process of taking each hide from the salted stage to a preserved rug leaves all the unique qualities of the animal intact. Bits of hay and seeds are a part of raising sheep. The most beautiful things in life aren’t always perfect. While we do our best to remove the big bits, removing it all would mean a completely different process that destroys what makes each hide unique.

THE SOURCE

Purchased as a young lamb from a family farm on the Oregon Coast, this sheep spent the last 3/4 of its life roaming the pastures here at Living Sky Farm.

Machine Washable. Click HERE for Instructions.

*Measurements are taken from the back of the hide at the neck to middle of back-end & across the widest part of the belly.
